A life divided. A soul suspended. A choice that could cost everything.

Her body is in a coma, her mind is in an alternate reality, and something or someone refuses to let her leave. Amara must navigate the world she's trapped in, decipher the rules that govern it, and face the hardest question of all-does she even want to go back? Amara Whitaker Brougham has spent twenty years holding together a marriage stretched thin by silence. On the surface, she is a polished professional, a devoted mother, a niece, and a wife who has compromised too much. But behind the veneer of stability lies a woman who wonders if it's too late to reclaim herself.

On her milestone birthday-the same day that marks the anniversary of her parents' deaths and her wedding anniversary-her carefully constructed life begins to unravel. A year later, a medical crisis fractures her reality, pulling her into a surreal alternate world where love is effortless, and the husband by her side is the man she always dreamed he could be.

But beneath the perfection, cracks appear, revealing that even dream lives have shadows. As Amara grapples with the war between these two lives, metaphysical and spiritual forces stir-both protective and sinister-demanding that she face the truths she's spent years avoiding.

With time slipping away, she must decide: What does it mean to love and be loved? To tell the truth? To forgive? To choose? And can she rewrite her own story before it's too late?

At the heart of it all is her reading chair-the one place where she has always sought comfort, the place that has held her secrets, her grief, and her dreams. It has been both her refuge and her reckoning, the space where she's hidden. But does it hold all the answers?

Step into Amara's world, where reality bends, fate beckons, and the courage to choose may be her greatest power-or the price she never expected to pay.

Book Excerpts

Book Excerpt

If absurdity could’ve held a job, it would’ve been on payroll at Randall & Quinn HCM—where a used condom in the hedges and another in the restroom were just part of a regular workday. For now, that absurdity was enough. It kept me from unraveling.

One lay crumpled in the hedges by the side entrance. Its torn wrapper glinted beside it in the sun like a party favor. Another turned up in the unisex restroom. That one forced me to draft a company-wide email, reminding employees to keep their “frolicking” outside the workplace.

Someone replied, “Is the parking lot considered ‘on company grounds’?”
I didn’t hesitate. My response? Swift. Sharp. And so satisfying. Moments like those reminded me why I loved my job: never boring, never dull. Chaotic.

Still, I welcomed it—the way it grounded me in purpose. But lately, the chaos at work served another purpose entirely: it gave me cover to escape from a marriage that had first withered to embers, then disintegrated to ash.

This story pulled me under and didn't let go.

Psychological literary fiction at its best! Slow burn, unique style, but so worth the read.

...was hooked from the opener and stayed locked in.

Deeply moving...
